授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	エッセイライティングの基礎を学ぶ．パラグラフ内の論理構成の技術をもとに，記述?意見表示?比較対象?原因-結果などの内容構成法におけるレポートやリサーチペーパー作成のための基礎練習を行う．このためにブレーンストーミングやアウトラインプロセシングなどの新しい技法を学ぶ．このほか随時正書法上の重要事項を学習する．Provides opportunities to develop fundamental understanding and use of paragraph writing.  Emphasis is placed on filling the gap on the students’ part between understanding the structural organisation of a paragraph/discourse and creating it in the way a target language user does.  Activities include formal practices on defining terms, classifying objects, ordering events, comparing and contrasting objects, stating cause and effect.  They also include individualised writing derived from the students’ knowledge, interest, and experience.  Orthographical skills are also taught.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	授業の主要な使用言語は英語とする．また，課外の作文課題は原則として機械清書をして提出するものとする．受講者は課題毎の提出物?課題に対する反省などをまとめたポートフォリオを作成することが求められる．課題に関する指示は別途配布する書類を参照すること．The class is taught/participated in English as a major means of communication.  The students are expected to type written assignments.  Students must keep a portfolio for reflective learning.  See a separate document for assignments.
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	各回とも十分な予習?復習を必要とする．また，課題は必ず期限までに提出しなければならない．Requires sufficient review and preview of each class.  Assignments must be submitted before the deadline. 【重要】初回授業の内容は授業ポートフォリオ Porta II で指示する．How to conduct the initial class will be instructed in the portfolio Porta II.　また，遠隔授業に備えて教科書は事前に購入しておくこと．Prepare the textbook in advance for the remote learning.
